My mother and 2 of my sisters decided to brave the time share presentation one morning, which turned into half the afternoon as well, my mother got what sounded like an amazing deal - despite numerous requests she has not received the paperwork and brochures which they said they were mailing to her. The 5 or so hours of sun we had to enjoy the pools were amazing. The pools were spectacular, the grounds well kept, the few times we had lunch by the pool was very good. The only exception was the front desk and management. Everyone we encountered was friendly, helpful and smiling. The housekeeping staff was very helpful in getting us dish soap, coffee filters and extra towels when ever they were needed. The room itself was beautiful, clean and very spacious. Which I found unacceptable!! My mother, 4 sisters and I stayed in a 2 bedroom suite. The management made absolutely no effort to go out of their way to try to make up for the inconveniences Mother Nature had caused. The beautiful pool bars had happy hour every day from 11-12 - but after the storm the pool bars were closed and no other bar or restaurant was substituting happy hour. The beach was a mess after the storm, palapas toppled, wires & tubing (?) exposed, deep crevices of washed out beach and it smelled of sewerage. The breakfast buffet restaurant was flooded and would be again 2 days later when they reopened. We were told a number of guests had to be moved from their room due to flooding. trees down, green pools, floods every where. Once the storm cleared enough for us to venture outside we were able to grasp how bad things had gotten over night. We closed it off and used the other 2 rooms for the remainder of our stay. We were on the 2nd floor of building 8 and there was a leak in the bathroom, no calls were ever answered to come look at it - the room quickly became unusable due to a strong moldy smell that made my mother ill. We were 6 people with very little food, with a little warning we could have been better prepared. The night the storm hit the parking lot had 3+ feet of water in it, causing multiple car alarms to go off through out the entire evening, every 15 minutes!! As another reviewer stated they were not answering the room service phone or when they did answer they hung up on you. We had the great misfortune of having one of the parking lots directly out side of our room. As others have said we had no warning of any kind from management about the magnitude of the approaching storm. Although the horrendous weather we encountered the first week of June was no fault of the resort, the poor, potentially dangerous, often unprofessional manner in which management handled things was quite unforgivable. I have waited a long time to post this review because of how negative my feelings were immediately after returning.

Best part of our tour was our wonderful driver Roberto who works for M transtours!!!!! It was a perfect week at the Grand Mayan.any questions, please do not hesitate to ask! We did need to walk to the main gate to meet them, which was no big deal. They actually called us, and rearranged our trip to Xel-Ha due to rain. Snorkeling was not great, but still loved our day! I highly recommend Cosver Tour. Tip: get there early and take advantage of the breakfast, lunch and Dinner Buffet! Start with the river tubes, and float away. We rented bikes in Coba.way to go! We also went to Xel-ha and loved it. We went to Tulum & Coba both very different, and interesting. He was located at the Mega, and we was extremely helpful and arranged two great trips. I do think the quality of the buffet is not as good as in years past! However, we ate at all the on site restaurants, and they were all VERY Good! We booked two excursions with Cosver Tours, Jorge Contreras. In years passed, we only ate at the Buffets because it was easy to go to with children.
Meals were always very good and plentiful! Drink prices are high.but you can easily bring your own drinks to the pool! We have been to the Grand Mayan several times, and my only disappointment was the buffet.
The prices are very comparable to prices on the east coast of the US.
We also had a change in our flight.we actually arrived 6 hours earlier, and I emailed concierge before getting on our earlier flight, and transportation was waiting for us! As far as restaurant prices being high.I disagree. We emailed the concierge and requested a building near the lobby, and were provided a great 2 bedroom in building 3. Just back.and once again we had another fabulous week in Paradise.
